Ecosurety to speak at RWM 2019

CEO James Piper and head of policy Robbie Staniforth are both booked to speak at the leading event for the recycling industry this September.

Taking place at NEC Birmingham on the 11 – 12 September, RWM 2019 is recognised as the UK’s largest recycling and waste management event – comprised of 500 pioneering exhibitors, 350 expert-led seminars and 6 zones – all of which are free to attend for registered visitors.

Robbie Staniforth, Ecosurety’s head of policy, pictured below, will hold a seminar on the first day of the event titled: A packaging compliance fee – the valve for a pressure cooker. This eye-opening seminar will look at meeting challenging packaging recycling targets over three years, and how a simple and promising amendment could drastically improve the system.

Meanwhile, James Piper, Ecosurety CEO, is taking part in a panel debate titled: Millennials... Making the Resource Management sector an attractive career choice, taking place on the second day.

Deliver greater awareness of packaging recycling

Robbie Staniforth commented on his seminar “The PRN system that has operated for over 20 years is fast becoming obsolete. However, given it is likely to continue for at least three more years, we shouldn’t just sit back and wait for 2023 to achieve better outcomes from the packaging governance system. Solutions to poor recycling rates for packaging are needed urgently.”

“A compliance fee has the potential to resolve the shortfall in reprocessing capacity, ensure that producer funds are directed to the right causes and deliver greater awareness of packaging recycling. I’m looking forward to presenting on some of the basic principles a fee should follow and why it is the best option to resolve the fundamental issues in the current system.“

Further notable speakers include Keep Britain Tidy, The Co-Op, MP Mary Creagh of Environment Audit Committee, TerraCycle, Costa Coffee, Clean Up Britain patron Jeremy Paxman, Procter & Gamble and NASA.
