Reducing carbon impact is critical to accelerate change towards a sustainable world. It all starts with being Carbon Literate.

What is Carbon Literacy?

Carbon Literacy is an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organisational basis.

Carbon Literacy training is a day’s worth of learning, developed by The Carbon Literacy Project. It provides the knowledge required to create a positive shift in how humanity lives, works and behaves in response to climate change. Ecosurety has been a certified Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) since 2023 and achieved CLO Gold status in 2025.

So far, over 143,000 people have been certified as Carbon Literate after completing the training and making meaningful pledges for action. Come and join the movement.

Carbon Literacy training for the packaging sector

Carbon Literacy is a critical first step towards impactful change. That’s why we developed bespoke training for the packaging sector, accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project.

Carbon Literacy helps fill the void left by packaging policy and producer responsibility, which remain focused on recyclability. By educating packaging producers and promoting meaningful action, together we can accelerate change.

We believe this is so important that all Premium Ecosurety members can claim one free Carbon Literacy training place per year. To date, we've trained a wide range of packaging producers who are collectively responsible for nearly half a million tonnes of packaging placed on the UK market each year.

Examples of positive action other producers are taking

We do not cover what packaging materials or formats you should switch to - this is beyond the scope of the training, requiring bespoke analysis on a case-by-case basis.

Cost: Our online and in-person training is charged at £200 per person, and includes certification with The Carbon Literacy Project. Premium Ecosurety members are entitled to one free training place per calendar year.

About The Carbon Literacy Project

The Carbon Literacy Project has been a collaborative project since inception and continues to rapidly grow. Based in Manchester, it is governed by The Carbon Literacy Trust.

It develops and accredits Carbon Literacy training and sector toolkits. It also certifies learners, organisations and trainers. The training is being delivered in 26 nations, with more than 100,000 certified learners, 248 Carbon Literate Organisations and 700 courses designed.

The Project was recognised by the UN at COP21 as one of 100 worldwide Transformative Action Programs.
