Award winning CSR
To help reduce our impact and improve local congestion and parking problems, we wanted to make car sharing as easily accessible to our team as possible. Due to the fact we are not a huge company however, we quickly discovered that we needed to connect our team to the other 8,000 commuters who are based on our local business park on the outskirts of Bristol.
With the local authority unable to justify funds for a park-wide commercial car share scheme due to expensive annual licences, it became apparent that there was a solution we could help with, to benefit all the commuters travelling to Aztec West Business Park. Quite simply we would create our own bespoke solution that would be free for everyone to use!
A sustainable solution
Working in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council who provided LSTF funding, and North Bristol SusCom who provided valuable expertise, we set about developing a permanent solution. The result? joinmyjourney.org, a journey sharing website that could quickly match up commuters travelling to the same workplace destination by car, bicycle or on foot.
After successfully launching at Aztec West in November 2015 (after a huge effort from our team!), we continued to work with South Gloucester Council to create free iOS, Android and Windows apps for registered users.
This project may have nothing to do with our core business of compliance, but it perfectly sums up our ethos of doing the right thing for ‘change for good’. We have since been recognised with a Travel West 2015 award for ‘Individual most committed to sustainable travel’ and a Travelwest 2016 'Most innovative sustainable travel measure' award, plus an award nomination for the Bristol Post Business Awards 2016 for ‘Contribution to the community’.
Could your organisation benefit too?
It would be a shame not to share it after all our hard work! We have a commitment to launch joinmyjourney for free within South Gloucestershire to 30 organisations and on a strictly not-for-profit basis elsewhere in the UK. Members of an Ecosurety compliance scheme can take advantage of a further reduced price too.
So far we are thrilled to have launched joinmyjourney to numerous sites including North Bristol NHS Trust, the University of the West of England and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Over 50,000 commuters are currently able to take advantage of our CSR project - could your organisation benefit too?
How it works
Once your branded sub-domain is set up, your employees simply sign up to instantly discover and contact colleagues they can share journeys with to the same workplace destination. Safety features include:
- Only validated organisation email addresses can register
- A click through safety guide
- In-app messaging
- Same-sex only option
Once it is up and running your only concern will be making sure all your employees know about it!
