These documents provide an easily digestible summary for packaging producers of key points in the extensive government consultations.
On 24 March UK governments released the second round of consultations for reforming the existing packaging producer responsibility system, including a consultation on Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging and a consultation on introducing a Deposit Return Scheme in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The deadline to respond is 4 June 2021.
The planned reform that UK governments are seeking feedback on is extensive and wide ranging, including a proposed single point of compliance and producers being financially responsible for the entirety of their packaging waste through modulated fees – a move that is set to greatly increase costs for producers.
Encourage and support packaging producers to respond
At a combined 316 pages, the official consultation support documents for both the EPR and DRS consultations are necessarily in-depth and technical. In an effort to encourage and support as many producers as possible to respond, Ecosurety has released easily digestible highlight summaries that cover the pertinent points that all packaging producers should consider feeding back on. The highlight summaries include reference links to the original government consultation documents.
